SEE CHATTANOOGA “UNDER THE RADAR”

I was thinking today about folks who visit Chattanooga. Some stay with us here at the Mayor’s Mansion Inn Bed and Breakfast next to UTC. These folks have an idea about what they’d like to do while visiting the Scenic City. I mean, who hasn’t seen the “See Rock City” barn roofs all their life! Additionally, our “World Class” Tennessee Aquarium and the Hunter Art Museum generally come up on our Guests’ list of Chattanooga attractions they want to do while visiting.

As a result of pondering this, however, I thought of things I invite Guests to do when I talk with them at breakfast. My interest is in making sure our visitors see our city and surroundings in the best possible light. So, here’s my list of things I like to send our Guests to see…things that are generally “under the radar” (but shouldn’t be!). Here ‘tiz:

TVA Raccoon Mountain. Less than ten miles from our Inn, this technological marvel never fails to pique guest’s interest. Beautiful vistas, rustic hiking trails, picnicking, great visitor’s center, and much more.

Coker Tire Museum. This is the late Mr. Coker’s personal collection of restored automobiles and motorcycles and includes a tour of the facility (they make vintage tires and wheels, i.e., if you had an old Duesenberg, they could probably handle wheels and tires for it.) They typically do two tours a day and the cost is $NOTHING!!

Enterprise Park. This is a beautiful natural area with hiking, walking, biking, picnicking, and driving. Located at the same exit off of I-75 North of Chattanooga (exit 9, as I recall) that you would take to go to the Volkswagen plant, the property was used as a WWII munitions dump and you can still see the “igloos” where the munitions were stored (there is at least one you can enter as the door is intentionally open, the acoustics are amazing to hear!).

Of course, I never tire of bragging about Chattanooga’s Restaurant Scene. For a small town, we are blessed with a veritable plethora of excellent places to get a good meal. Cindi and I do all of the research we can to stay up to date, as evidenced by our waistlines.
